I’m scared of shots. What should I do?

You’re not alone. But keep this in mind. Getting shots is much less painful than getting the diseases they prevent. Most people say that getting a shot feels like a little quick pinch.

To help you relax during shots:

  • Have a parent keep you company.
  • Take slow, deep breaths.
  • Focus on something in the room, like a poster.
  • Bring along your favorite music.
  • Close your eyes and think of your favorite place or activity.

Before you know it, your shots will be over with and you’ll be protected! It’s worth it!

If you’re getting a flu vaccine, you can also ask your doctor or nurse about the nasal spray flu vaccine. It’s a mist that goes inside your nostrils and protects you against the flu, just like the flu shot.
